TANGALIA - The Dotted Art........
So after talking a lot about Bawanbuti- The dying art of Bihar . I am now heading towards the state of Gujarat for my readers today. A place where you can binge on your favorite khakra, fafda and jalebi . Yes, i sure did enjoy my stay here.On my trip to Gujarat, i kinda stumbled upon a distinct yet beautiful craft called TANGALIA.
Tangalia which is practiced only in Gujarat in the district of Surendranagar. The Dangasia community is the sole producer of this craft. A unique technique of wrapping thread on the warp yarn during the process of weaving.
A traditional pit loom is used to weave the fabric which is usually practiced as a household activity.
Tangalia fabrics are woven using raised dots/danas as called which have a bead like effect. The designs are more geometric and do add a graphical touch to them.
Placement of the design is done by calculating the distance between the warp and the wefts. Thus, forming a geometric pattern. Colors like black or maroon is seen in the main body with hues of pink, red, green or purple as motifs.
This is all about Tangalia........do follow my blogpost....and encourage the weavers of Surendranagar.
